Swollen Feet During Pregnancy. Suggestions For Support Stockings?
My daughter is 4 month pregnant and already having problems with swelling in her feet. She is average weight. She called me today concerned about having this problem so early in her pregnancy. She also was in fertility for 2 years before she conceived. She called her OB Dr today and was told to get some support stockings. Cannot get into her shoes today and had to wear flip flops today. She works in NYC daily and does a lot of walking. Any suggestions for support stockings. Her Dr did not suggest prescription support stockings. I told her to lay down when she gets home and elevate her feet over her heart. She needs more support for walking to work taking subways and trains. Just wanted to she what you may recommend.
Hi, Until she can wear her shoes, your daughter may use a crepe bandage for support; as the swelling eases, she can go for the support stockings. Also, it appears that she does a lot of walking and is taking a lot of strain; please see if that can be curtailed so as to give her adequate rest. If the swelling does not subside even with sufficient rest, she may need to be investigated for further support. Hope this helps. Take care.
Hi dear, thanks for believing in us, Swelling in feet during pregnancy can occur due to all of reasons. The most common being physiological i.e due to changes in pregnancy itself. However, it increases through out day and gets relieved on lying down and taking rest. Other causes being anemia, PIH, Heart diseases etc. As told by you, your daughter is up throughout day so probably the cause of her swelling is merely physiological. But swelling of this amount needs to be evaluated and she should see her doctor. As of now, supportive stockings may help her. Best is to keep her foot on some raised platform while working in a sitting position and lie down whenever possible. Get her hemoglobin checked at earliest if not done till now. All the best
hi, your doctor has recommended rightly. i hope her Blood pressure is normal, and protein level in urine is also nil. if these two are fullfilled, you need not bother and just follow what your doctor has told.
if blood pressure is high, then it is sign of pre-eclampsia,for which you need to be cautious and take separate treatment.
wishing you good health
