My mother is in a nursing home with dementia. She is 85 years old. One neurologist told me she in in the mid to moderate stage of Alzheimer. But, the neurologist in the home says dementia not alzheimer. A very good cardiologist picked up on this and told me that it looks like she has alzheimer, but she has hardening of the arteries. He told me what she has is microvascular leukoencephalopathy.....Is this the same as Alzheimer? Her mri scans showed periventricular white matter disease, chronic small vessel disease, brain atrophy......She also has Parkinson Disease......The currently is on Aricept and Namenda.
