What Cause Low WBC Count?

I am going on my 3rd cycle of mFOLFOX6 which is being postponed because my baby white blood cell count today was 1.1 and should be 1.4. I have no fever and do not have infection and symptom-free except for this abnormal count. I do NOT wish to start taking Zarixo at this point but nurse recommends starting if counts do not increase to normal by Wed. What do you recommend? Can a stressful week cause a decrease in WBC recovery rate?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You have been taking a chemotherapeutic drug.

It can suppress bone marrow so your WBC count can be low.

The stress event usually raises count, not decrease in count.

The Filgrastim not prescribed if underlying blood cancer is the diagnosis.

Provide your detailed history and reports to guide you further.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami,
