What Causes A Hard Painful Lump On The Pelvic Bone?

Just found a lump in the region of my pelvic bone on the left side. It was an itch I thought and I scratched it and it became painful. I am concerned to what this is. It hard like a marble. When I tried to look at it, it was a purple blue color. I am a 69 year old female. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a carbuncle commonly since it is hard, itchy & painful. However, you are suggested to get it clinically examined by a GP to rule out bone cyst, benign tumor, bone tumor, etc. If diabetic, you should control your blood glucose levels at all cost. You will have to get few blood tests, imaging tests or biopsy if required. You may need drainage & antibiotics if it is a carbuncle. Take Acetaminophen, one SOS when pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
