Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a bad taste in my mouth for months and no one can figure out what is causing it. I have been to the dentist and had an old filling removed and a crown put on then I had to have a root canal then several months later I thought the crown was the problem so I had my dentist cut the new crown off. No change in the taste in my mouth. Last week I saw the PA and he prescribed Nystatin thinking I might have thrush . I have also been taking omeprazole because the doctor thought it might be from acid reflux. I gave also taken a course of ranitidine and Zantac for the same reason. I have seen an ENT doctor who told me I had dry mouth and drink more water! Nothing is working and I don t know what the next step should be.
Bad taste in mouth can be due to a number of causes and however all the things that were suspected for you to is dry mouth, acid reflux, thrush etc are all the causes .
Other causes can be tonsil stones, teeth and gum infection, post nasal drip, digestive problems , side effects of any medication if you take etc..
So hot and trial method of treatment will not give you permanent resolution.. So you need to go through a thorough investigation procedure to rule out the exact cause..
As of now chew flavoured sugar free chewing gum and Gargle with flavoured antiseptic mouthwash.. Avoid excessive intake of high aroma food like onion and garlic.. Drink plenty of water.. Clean your tongue using tongue scraper .
Hope this helps..
Regards .
