What Causes Bleeding During Intercourse?

I am a 21 year old female. I have never had this problem before, but my husband and I were having sex last night, and I started bleeding. I got up and went to the bathroom as soon as we noticed it, and the bleeding had stopped. I read that this is something that I shouldn't ignore, so now I'm a little worried about what could be wrong.
