What Causes Blood In Stools?

My doctor has had problems using the bathroom. 2 days ago, she went poop and it looked like a big glob of snot with streaks of blood. Her pediatrician checked her SED rate and it came back normal. He said if it was normal then she was experiecing mild abdominal bleeding???
