Hi there: I'm in Cape Town, South Africa - male, age 61, have been having increasing dizzy spells over the last 9 or so months, which my doctor says is probably BPPV. It certainly seemed positional and was certainly true vertigo when it started, but is more like general dizziness now. I'm a lifelong bag of nerves, a raving hypochondriac, I'm sorry to say, and have had high anxiety level for years. I am on 25mg Trepilene (amytryptiline), 10mg Lipitor and 50/12.5mg Chlorthalidone daily, and have been for many years, although the trepiline only the last 18 months or so to help me sleep. In a hot bath three or four days ago had a sudden 'pop' feeling inside my head (as though something had burst), and since then dizziness (rather than vertigo) has been more or less constant, except when lying down. Head just 'doesn't feel right', especially when walking. No other symptoms normally suggestive of brain tumour as listed on the internet, but I'm still panicking that this might be the problem. No health insurance, and MRI essentially unaffordable. Doctor says state hospital wouldn't do it free of charge unless 'much more strongly motivated than this'. I dare say he's probably right in saying it's not a brain tumour, after all this time, but how does he know this without evidence? The fear of a brain tumour alone is incapacitating. Regards, Gavin
