What Causes Ear Pain With Muffled Hearing?

I blew my nose yesterday. My left ear popped violently and painfully, and then hurt the rest of the night. I thought it was just fluid, so I slept with that ear down. I woke up and it still hurt. No fluid on my pillow. Now, it feels like I have an ear plug in my ear, hearing ranges from muffled to none, ocaasional waves of pain. Is my ear damaged?
