Hi. I have been sick for 4 days the first day i had a fever which broke the next morning, the second day i had diarrhea, and the third and fourth day which is today i have had the urge to have a bowel movement including cramping and gas in the stumach but when i go to the bathroom i either cant go or i do go and its very little diarrhea. Is this just a virus or what can i do to help the symptoms?
Gastroenteritis is most commonly caused by viral or bacterial infection. It is likely based on the course of your symptoms that the infection is viral.
The main aspect of treatment is fluid management to prevent or treat dehydration.
This involves the use of oral rehydration solutions or gatorade.
The use of probiotics would also help to decrease the symptoms and restore normal bacteria. This can be in the form of yogurt or can be taken directly.
I hope this helps
