Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 12 mo old son gasps for air while he is staining, lying down, or just sitting. He does it once or twice at a time. He just started this. My pediatricians says not to be worried as long as he is not in distress. But I find this strange since he has never done this before. Any ideas what may be causing this? Thank you!
Gasping while running or even sitting is not a symptom to be taken lightly. Though it may be a harmless imitation of something he has recently seen or heard or observed someone else doing, one cannot rule out a cardiac ailment or asthma. You need to consult a physician and have a thorough cardiovascular and respiratory check-up. X-rays , ECG and ultrasound examination may be required.
