Hi I m nearly 50 and a few months ago the specialist put a Mirena for my heavy bleeding. My fibroid is crumbling and I lost quite a bit of blood. I continue with medium bleeding every month.I have been very anaemic in the past. Before all this my iron was ok but Im taking iron sup every day .In the last week I ve been feeling nauseous with some headache .I am a very busy mum always on the go .Could this nausea be just fatigue or stress? Thanks
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Mirena is an intrauterine device (IUD) containing a progestin hormone 'levonorgestrel'. Dizziness, headache and nausea are common side effects experienced by many while on Mirena. However, such side effects should subside over a period of time. You can take symptomatic treatment for such symptoms in the meantime. Also, once your iron levels improve in blood, you should start feeling better. If such symptoms become severe in nature and becomes bothersome, kindly consult your doctor for further evaluation and appropriate management. Hope the information provided helps. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
