What Causes Irregular Menstrual Periods?

Hello. I've been having irregular periods for two years, and i went for a ct-scan because of severe stomach pain, thinking it was an appenticitis, but it wasn't. They noticed that my ovaries looked larger than normal, but didn't do any further testing. With the irregular periods, i was wondering if i should be concerned.
