What Causes Itching And Burning Sensation On The Vagina?

Hi, I think I have a yeast infection because at first I had itching senations then some mild burning on the outside of my vagina. Therefore, I bought Miconazole to treat it but when I inserted the cream inside, it automatically started to severely burn to a point I couldn't stand it. Most of the cream has come out now and that burning sensation is gone so I suspect it was an allergic reaction, what do you think? Also, even though the burning sensation is gone should I still go to my doctor to inform him about the burning or just try a different product without miconazole?
