What Causes Nausea While Suffering From Pneumonia?

My mother is 75. She had a nacardia lung infection twenty years ago when she had breast cancer. The nacardia spread to her brain. She has recovered but is weaker physically than she was before. This past year she started losing weight. She had a dry cough. She was diagnosed with pneumonia a month ago. Food makes her very nauseous now and she ll have severe bouts. She has recently had a bronchoscopy. They sent mucus in for analysis. No signs of cancer. At first they said she had aperilligillous but now they say the blood test don t confirm that. They said not nocardia. What could be causing both issues, the nausea with weight loss and the mucus in her lungs?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my clinical experience, it is the underlying compromised immunity with susceptibility to recurrent infection which is responsible for the same. Nausea is primely gastric upset or anxiety induced.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
