I’m a 40 year old female who late last year noticed a numb feeling on the right side of my chin, then in February this year the numbness spread up to my forehead with a tingling feeling. I went to the Doctor who referred me to a neurologist and at the same time did a blood test. My blood test results came back with my neutrophils at 0.36 (7 years earlier my neutrophils were just under 2.00). I was then referred to Haematologist who did every test under the sun - CT, MRI, Bone scans, more blood test and a bone marrow biopsy. All normal with a slight increase with my antinuclear antibodies and neutrophils still low 0.41. The Haematologist diagnosed me with Autoimmune Neutropenia and sent me to the Neurologist to try and work out what is wrong with me. These are my symptoms; Right side facial numbness Ache on both sides - jaw and cheek bone (CT showed a slight case of sinusitis ) Dizziness & light headedness Fatigue No taste sensation right side of tongue Problem with swallowing mucus Dry right eye Apart from the above symptoms I look well and don’t get ill very often, maybe once every 2 years which has puzzled my specialists. My Neurologist first put me on a course of Prednisone which didn’t help with my symptoms however raised my neutrophil count to 2.14, 1 month later I had another blood test and my neutrophil’s fell back down to 0.44. He then sent me to another Neurologist for a 2nd opinion who said I was an interesting case and has now referred me to an Immunologist and an Ears Nose and Throat specialist. I want to get off this expensive specialist roundabout. Should I stick it out and see these 2 additional specialists? Also, I have read Autoimmune Neutropenia can be life threatening, will I start to get sick or could I be a rare case?
