Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have shoulder pain during the day - minor when I raise my arms - however at night aches all night long from the shoulder down to the elbow. I recently joined a gym and have been lifting 20lbs weight - that is when the pain at night began. Before the the gym there was just minor pain during they day when I lifted my arms over my head. What could this be a result of?
You seem to have got a Subscapularis Tendon Tear. NSAIDs like Paracetamol, Brufen will help. The biggest rotator cuff muscle in the shoulder is called the subscapularis muscle; it is key to shoulder strength, especially when weight lifting or moving the arm inward. A complete rotator cuff tear will not heal. Complete ruptures usually require surgery if your goal is to return your shoulder to optimal function. A rotator cuff repair involves stitching the torn tendon back onto its attachment to the arm bone (Humerus) Gently squeeze the shoulder muscles and apply pressure as well to relieve pain and encourage blood flow. Massage for about 10 minutes, then put a warm towel on the affected area for best results. Do massage therapy a few times daily until the pain subsides.
