What Causes Poor Flow Of Urine After A Menstrual Period?

Hi, I'm a 26yr old female and all my life I've had trouble urinating. I can remember being 6 years old and having to push my stomach to make myself wee. About a year ago I woke up on two separate occasions completely paralyzed, feeling came back after about 10-20 mins. After that happened, I started having more problems with my bladder, I have extremely poor flow after my period, sometimes I just can't go, even though I need to. Just before my period starts, my bladder behaves almost normally. I had video urodynamic testing done, and all my results we abnormal, extremely poor flow (I could only get 150mls out, and then they got an additional 300mls out with a catheter). The testing showed my bladder and rectum spasming, though I couldn't feel it at all. The doctor has put me Xatral (the pressure in my bladder is equivalent to a male when I try to urinate), which I'm supposed to start taking tonight. He's also ordered a full head neck and spine MRI. Given the side effects of Xatral, I'm wondering if it would be better to wait until after the MRI to start taking it, in case something shows up in that. To me something feels out of place, but they can't check this because I'm a virgin. I suppose I'm just wondering what can cause this, and what the best course of action is? The doctor said if I don't do something now, I may end up with a permanent catheter, that scares the daylights out of me. I'm also not keen on being on medication long term, not knowing what the long term effects of that could be. If you can shed some light on my situation, that would be great, I seem to be going around in circles, they all say something is definitely not right, but no one can give me answers. It's extremely scary, especially when they're mentioning things like MS, just need someone to put my mind at ease, or at least give me a little more info. Thanks for your time.
