What Causes Prolonged Periods With Heavy Bleeding Followed By Light Bleeding?

I am 43 years old, I have always have my period like time work, this month though I got it, it was heavy like normal, it usually stops on day 5. It stop on day five, but, came back the next day real real light and its been 5 days like this. A total of 10 days so far. Is this normal?
