When I was in Batangas, The Philippines in 1995 I encountered a man with severe scars all over his face, which I thought was smallpox. He told me it was hereditary (but didn't tell me what the disease was). I thought it was smallpox - and it looked like smallpox, given the photos I've seen with people who had the disease. However, I thought smallpox was eradicated, and I don't know if it's hereditary. Later, the next day I saw a teenage boy, also in Batangas, whose face was pockmarked like that man's was. Do you have any clue as to what that disease might have been, and if it in fact is hereditary? Thank you. YYYY@YYYY
