What Causes Soreness In The Vagina Despite Using Triple Antibiotic Ointment?

Urine tested negative, as did a Papp smear, cultures and Tests for UTI. No fever, soreness sometimes lessened, but not lately. Have used ice packs with some success, also petroleum jelly, triple antiobiotic ointment, and cortizone cream . Not much relief. Having another culture taken on Thursday. After all this time. not optimistic. 3-4 years ago had same problem and was given an antiobiotic (Dr no longer in state) which worked; but my Primary and an OBGYN Dr neither seem to want to do this. Very uncomfortable most of time. ??????

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

What is your age? Are you menopausal or perimenopausal? Are you having an abnormal discharge?
The reason for soreness may be multiple, not just bacterial infections for which these antibiotics are helpful. You may wish to use Miconazole cream for fungal infections which are common too.
Also if you are in the peri-menopausal age group, you may be having hormonal changes, in which there is no abnormal discharge. You need topical Estrogen hormonal creams in this case.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Shilpi Kulshreshtha
