What Causes Swelling In My Child S Abdomen?

I would like to know why my 14 year-old daughter has such a swollen abdomen. She started her periods a year ago at 13 and from that moment started putting on weight very quickly- nearly 28 lbs. As a child she had a curved spine and a swollen rounded tummy sometimes. The rest of the family is very slim.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

It is common for girls to acquire weight in this age due to hormonal changes. No need to worry. Encourage a healthy diet (rich in green leafy veggies, fruits and proteins; cut down fat and calories) and to have regular physical exercise daily for 1 hour.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
