What Causes Swelling In The Tongue?

I have been taking Synthroid 175 mcg . I am 76 yrs Had thyroidectomy in 2006 pappilary cancer , Passed my 10 yr mark but have gone to Emergency twice for tongue swelling. Why must I take so much? I am changing to
Levothoroxine but am off med for 3 days. My dr says this is a common occurrence with high dose of Synthroid
Will I get same result with Levethoroxine?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Synthroid and Levothyroxine are one and the same as Synthroid also contains active ingredient as Levothyroxine only..
So if you just change the name of the medication the effect or the reaction will not change..
However it is commonly seen that if you are hypothyroid then you can have a problem of swelling of tongue.
So first of all get your thyroid profile done.
Also if you change the doses too frequently then it can also be a cause..
So my advise is to consult your Physician or an Endocrinologist and get evaluated..
Tongue swelling of goes severe can obstruct breathing so immediate management is a must..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
