I was involved in an auto accident in late February. My thumb/wrist hurt and was xrayed, but didn't show a problem. It was splinted and was re-xrayed about 3-4 weeks later and still didn't show anything. About 8 weeks later it was still swelling, popping, and hurting, so I went to an orthopedic doc who xrayed it and found a break of the scaphoid bone. He ordered a CT scan. The radiologist said there was not a break, but the doc says there is obviously excess calcification on the side of the scaphoid closest to the thumb. A wrist specialist is going to look at the xrays, etc., but what might that mean!??!
