What Causes Vaginal Spotting After Periods?

My birth control ended on Thursday, July 29th and I had unprotected sex Saturday, July 31st and started my period Sunday, August 1st. I did not start a new pack of birth control when my period ended. It ended on Thursday, August 5th. It is now Tuesday, August 10th and I am spotting. What is causing this?
