What Causes Vision Deterioration?

I am 32years old. Observing deterioration in my eyes i.e I have to get closer to smaller things to see them which wasn t the case 8years ago. I work in a control room. Thus exposed to PCs for a 12hr shift for the last 5 - 7years. I have consulted Ophthalmologists/Opticians about the issue. First time which was 3years ago I was told I had a perfect sight even though to me things were already getting blurred in my vision. I insisted I get an AR lens which they reluctantly gave to me. That improved my vision. But now the lens is no longer able to correct the eye defect over the same distance as was the case 3years ago. How can I prevent this downward slide in my vision. As another visit to the Dr, i am being told I need a more powerful lens. Thanks
