Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had an AVM-Arterial Venous Malformation - 30 years ago. My neurosurgeon operated. He was unable to get my skull cap back on.I am nearly 80 now. I have a large depression in the back of my head and scalp where there should be bone. He said he got most of it. I ve been warned about flashing lights in periphery of my vision and balance and speech problems. Is there any follow up I should be doing. I am in pretty good shape for 80.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your actual symptoms are post operative symptoms and they are probably caused by the hypoventilation of specific cerebral zones because of the arterio venous malformation and the brain surgery. All I can suggest to you is to consult your treating neurosurgeon and discuss with him potential therapies that can be helpful for you, in your circumstances.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
