Hi, I had a tooth out yesterday afternoon (back molar) it was bleeding heavily but did reduce after a few hours, however it started again after eating even though I was careful not to eat on the same side as the extraction. Again by bed it had stopped enough for me to go to bed but I ve just woken up after 5hrs sleep and my pillow has blood on it, my mouth is still oozing blood not at the rate as first extraction but still a tablespoon worth. Was just thinking is this normal? Or do I need to go back to a dentist, I ve had my painkillers so I m in no pain. Thanks in advance
Slight bleeding post extraction for a period of 24 hours is not abnormal but if the bleeding is profuse then you should immediately consult an Emergency room or your Dentist and get evaluated so that they can achieve hemostasis..
For now you can hold a sterile gauze at the extraction site and bite gently as it will help in reducing bleeding.. Also do cool compresses over the cheek.. Eat cold foods like ice cream.. Avoid sucking any liquids with a straw, smoking or eating hard foods.. Do not poke the extraction site with tongue..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
