Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there I have had a lump in my left breast and pain for around four months. I went to the doctors and got a 2 week referral to breast clinic. They did a very brief exam & ultrasound on one spot which was not even where the lump is (I was too nervous to speak up). They then said it looked fine and sent me away with a breast pain leaflet. I am now going out of my mind with worry as I still have this lump and pain (I am a dance teacher) and it is bothering me daily. Should I go back to the doctors and push for a second opinion??? I know my body & it is telling me something isn t right. Thanks.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, I understand your concern. A painful lump in breast can be either -a hormone dependent lump( fibrocystic breast ), appearing regularly in later half of menstrual cycle & diminishes after periods.- needs hormonal treatment. - A breast abscess.. giving history of trauma/ breast feeding. pain is ++ & accompanied by fever .- needs antibiotics? incision & drainage.. - Cancer is another dreaded cause of breast lump. - It's a fast growing lump, with or without pain This is mostly subjected to mammogram which helps in detection, to be followed by biopsy & the removal if indicated. I feel you had been subjected to mammogram .. with -ve result. till if you have any doubt, you should have 2nd opinion by an expert gynecologist & get specific traetment. Thanks.
