What Does Pain In The Shoulders Indicate?

I am having pain in the upper shoulder especially in the center of the upper back and should blades. I have been diagnoised with arth. in the neck. It is very hard to sleep at night, and when just sitting. A friend who is a nurse told me that it is muscle. Can this be true?

Thanks for given information,According to your history disease,and present shoulder pain,and pain in upper back shoulder blades,can be fibromyalgia,
