What Does This Scan Report During Pregnancy Indicate?

Hi I got an early ultra sound as I have slight bleeding I think I'm about 6 weeks pregnant. The ultr saound say that there is an irregular intrauterine gestation sac within the uterine cavity, measures 10x6x5mm. No definite fetal pole, but contains some echogenic bodies. I got HCG done 3 days apart the first number was 4250 and the second 7870. Can you tell me in ewasy to understand language what this means?

Hello,
A trans-vaginal sonogram done at 6 weeks gestation should be able to identify the gestation sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal cardiac activity. The outline of the gestation sac should be regular. Irregular outline suggests fetal demise or failure of the pregnancy to progress. Your gestation sac corresponds to 5 weeks and hence a repeat test after another week should clarify things better. Serum beta-hCG titres usually double every 2-3 days if the pregnancy is progressing well. Your titres have increased but not doubled. Further measurement is necessary. Compiling every information, your pregnancy viability needs to be established at a repeat test and the bleeding you had could be an indication of a threatened or a missed abortion. Hope this helps.
