Sir/Ma'am:
I was stepped on by a horse in late April '12; rt. foot, lateral, horse stepped all his weight then twisted. I felt a 'tick'. Lots of swelling, bruising, pain. Iced it and continued about my work/life. Now, I can barely get through until lunch for the pain, by the end of the day I hurt so bad I can't eat supper; I've lost approx 10 pounds and I'm tired of the pain. Was x-rayed Friday, 20July2012. Dr. stated "...not ruling out nondisplaced proximal 5th phalange..." I'm sorry, I cannot remember the rest. I have an appt. Mon, 23July2012 w/Podiatrist.
I am aware that it is not typical for doctors to cast or place a walking boot on these types of injuries. However, with the highly physical and demanding work that I do (farm chores and handling large livestock), the typical plain stiff-soled open shoe is not going to provide me any protection at all - I'd be better off wearing my work boots as I have been. Would it be appropriate to ask for something that can protect my foot until it heals, like a cast or something similar, if in fact it is a nondisplaced fracture? Or is that totally out of the question?
Thank you very much,
Tina
