Why Does The Area Around An IV Insert Painful?

Hi, I had an IV about two weeks back. The area around the vein, from the back of my palm, till about the middle of my forearm (on the underside) pains - along the vein, and also there are small bumps appearing along the vein that itch. Is this a normal reaction to the IV, or do I need to see a doctor. Please advise. Thanks.
