Will Skipping Birth Control Pills Cause Prolonged Periods?

My doctor had me skip my spacer pills for my birth control because I had missed a couple of pills, so to be on the safe side of not getting pregnant he had me skip the placebo pills. But now, I've had my period for over a week straight. Not very heavy, more like the last 2-3 days of my period but has lasted 9 days now. Normally, since taking birth control, my menstrual cycle lasts 3 days. Before birth control it lasted 6 days. Should I head into the clinic? Is there anything they can help with it? Or do I just wait it out? I stopped taking my birth control altogether now.
