A month ago i got sick with a short cold and was congested and such, now usually after a cold passes my congestion lingers for a week, however this time it stayed with me for nearly three weeks before i went to the doctor with a sinus infection. The doctor gave me 10 days of anoxicillin 875mg and told me to irrigate my sinuses with saline everyday. So I purchased Ocean Saline solution and used it twice a day when, on the 4th day my nose and roof of my mouth burned insanely for about 30 minutes. It eventually passed but i only irrigated with saline spray once a day and it would still burn lightly. Now, after a week of antibiotics and saline irrigation once a day i still have some congestion behind my nose. Usually one nostril is clear or the other and it wont go away. Could I have irritated the sinus there by using saline solution too much? The way i would use my nasal saline spray was by laying in bed with my head hanging down and then i would fill my sinuses up with it until it was full and then wait a little while and turn over into a bucket. Could this have caused this blockage I am now feeling where it feels like my mucus thickens behind my nose and like my sinuses behind my nose are inflammed? If so, should i continue irrigation with something more gentle like a neti pot (instead of the Ocean saline spray) or should I stop irrigation for awhile? Also, sometimes, in an effort to clear the thick blockage, I will steam water and breath in the steam, which works, my mucus becomes runny but the inside of my nose area sinus passage stings after awhile and feels irritated. What suggestions would any ENT give me? Background: never had a sinus infection before in my life until this one, I am 38 years old and am taking vitamin c, zinc, whole food organic vitamins, vitamin d on a daily basis. Please advise!
