Can HIV Be Contracted Through An Open Wound?

Hi, I was helping a homeless man last night with his bicycle chain. It was dark and I did not see that his hands were cut badly and bleeding. When I realized this, I got up and walked away to wash my hands immediately. I told him 'I have your blood on my hands from helping you with this.." to which he replied "I have everything from A to Z.." I assume from this remark that he meant the obvious (Hep B,C, HIV).

I had a small amount of blood (about the size of two dimes, and a quarter) on my palms from grabbing the bike chain, and my left index finger had his blood on the fingerprint part of the finger.

I had no cuts on my hands palms or top, only one hangnail on my right thumb, which did not (I'm 95% sure) get blood near it. It would be fair to say this potentially infected blood was on unbroken skin.

I washed my hands within 5 minutes with warm water and soap, and I washed them again and again since... I'm not sure what to do or the risk attached to this exposure.

Please give me some guidance, I am very concerned...

thanks, V.
