I had knee replacement surgery in june, 2014. It became infected and the infection ate away so much of my skin I had to have plastic surgery where thet cut my calf muscle & pulled it back over my knee cap area, they did a skin graft to cover that. 2 or 3 days after the plastic surgery my leg was swollen a lot and I developed drop foot. The surgeon said he was careful to avoid the peroneal nerve. He said the edema was causing the foot drop & it would return to normal after the swelling subsided. 6 months after the plastic surgery, the edema has reduced to about 1/2 , but the foot drop & numbness still remain. Could the edema have caused the nerve damage, or is it possible that the surgery did? Do I have any treatment options?
