Dear Doctor,
At the start of June this year my wife had abnormal bleeding. She was given a diagnostic hysteroscopy and was found to have an infection in her vaginal area and a small growth was found in her uterus . She was also diagnosed with a thick uterus lining.
After her infection was cleared up with hospital treatment, she had a further hysteroscopy on June 15th this time with surgery, to remove a fibroid and have tissue sample from her uterus lining, taken. She was given medication to take for a week straight afterwards to stop any bleeding that might result from the operation.
After the results on the test on her uterus lining sample, my wife has been diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia the type being diagnosed as:
1. Proliferative state endometrium, partly polyp-like hyperplasia
2. Polyp of Cervical Canal
That is a literal translation of the results given from Chinese to English. I hope it makes sense. Apparently it is Simple endometrial hyperplasia My wife is living and getting treatment in China. She is 162 cm tall and weighs about 60kg. She is 38 years old and has no children.
She has been prescribed with Duphaston to take one tablet, twice daily for ten days. After checks, if needed she will take the same dosage for the same amount of days for the next two months. My wife has no particular known allergies and is trying her best to follow a diet that reduces inflammation.
She will start taking Duphaston , tomorrow eleven days after the start of her latest period.
My 5 questions are:
1. If those results make sense to you, do they indeed indicate simple, non- atypical endometrial hyperplasia?
2. Under these circumstances is it necessary for my wife to take any medication or have treatment at all? Is the condition likely to clear up by itself?
3.If treatment is necessary, are their safer alternatives to taking Duphaston? For example the following recommended diet:
Organic foods – Pesticides can affect estrogen and other hormones, therefore it is important to choose only organic.
Wild-caught fish reduce inflammation and reduces pain.
Flax, hemp seeds and chia seeds – Will help improve estrogen levels, consume 3 tablespoons daily.
Cruciferous vegetables – Increases , which supports liver detoxification.
Avocados – Are high in healthy fats, fiber, potassium and magnesium all of which support hormone balance and reduce inflammation.
4. Is Duphaston safe? What chances are there, that it could cause breast cancer or liver damage or similar problems?
5. Is there a simple procedure for checking the whole of the uterus for cancer? Here in China the doctors told her that there are no signs of cancer from the results of her uterus lining sample, but that cannot guarantee that other parts of the uterus do not have cancer.
Thank you so much for being available for questions. I'm sorry for the long enquiry, but I thought detail would help you better to give a specific answer.
