Hello
I am 35 and a year back diagnosed with AVN condition, while i was in Australia. The Surgeon from public health care suggested i should undergo a bilateral hip surgery ( both in one surgery) but i couldn't as i had to move to Germany.
The surgeon here suggested one hip at a surgery and to wait 6 months before undergoing 2nd, so i can still use one leg to carry myself around post surgery. At this point my right hip was not so bad , so thought it was a good idea and underwent the left hip replacement on 5th oct 2015. its been 5 months. Left hip has no pain but now right has gone very bad. In short i am on 2 half legs. I can exercise at gym to push more weights with leg as the right one hurts. getting exhausted in 100 meters walk and constant severe pain in right hip now . As for the left hip , i was told it will be perfectly mobile in 6months but i still use sockies to put socks on n have to sit to wear shoes , as i can't lift either leg fully.
i have couple of questions :
1. Is my recovery normal after 5 months, where i still can't lift my leg to its fullest ? also when its cold ( its winter here with 0 deg temp) , i can barely move. if its normal , how long will it take for left hip to be back to how it was ? can't even remember how to walk normally
2. Was it right decision to do one hip at a time, as now i have 2 half legs ?
3. does smoking marijuana to reduce the pain , contribute to worsening my condition ? i tried all medicines (even 800 mg , twice to thrice a day ) with no effect .
Pls advise.
