Hello,
I am a 32 year old man and I have allergic asthma that is being treated with Advair 230/21 and Singulair 10 mg. Since Singulair was added to my maintenance medication, the number of wheezing episodes experienced almost completely stopped for many days, even though I experienced a constant tightness in my chest that was determined not to be cardiac. Last week, I started exercising again for the first time in nearly 2 weeks, and I ran much faster than I guess I should. The chest tightness got much worse, and I had this burning sensation deep in my lungs, and became very short of breath. I used my rescue inhaler and started to feel better. Later that same night, I was lying down on bed reading, as soon as I got up to go get a glass of water, I noticed a very audible wheezing sound primarily when I exhale. The next day, I went back to exercising, but decided to lower the intensity of my running a lot. Again, I developed similar symptoms that were however milder.
I have generally been often very tired, and feel out of shape, even though I had lost a tremendous amount of weight over the last few months. What's unusual is that that I feel less fit after losing 70 pounds with regular exercise over several months! I also noticed that when I use my rescue inhaler a few minutes before I go out to exercise, the chest tightness is less intense, and I feel more energetic and able to keep going for a longer time.
Am I experiencing exercise-induced asthma?
Thanks!
