Hello. I have fibromyalgia and mixed connective tissue disease. Losing 35 pounds allowed me to stop taking Savella, and my symptoms have been "pretty" good, with an occasional assist from Tylenol and a rub of Voltarin. Also, I have RLS and take Horizant. I decided to attack my sleep issues (not being able to go to sleep, or going to sleep and awakening an hour later and not being able to go back to sleep, etc.) and saw a new sleep doctor who wanted me to go back to the basics: go to bed at a routine time, read to relax (my preference), and get up at the same time every day. Plus, he told me to take Meletonen one-half hour prior to my bedtime. Not believing this world work any better than in past years....I began doing this about five weeks ago, and to my surprise, my initial fall-asleep time has increased from an hour to sometimes five hours, and I can get myself back to sleep. That said, I am in the throes of muscle spasms, one especially bad one in my shoulder necessitating a trip to my PT. He released it, but I can feel it "at the ready" and am being careful not to reengage it! My question, after all this, is....does Meletonen cause muscle issues...or is this just my fibromyalgia/MCTD kicking in? I exercise, walk/run in intervals, play tennis....but am 75 years young. Thanks for anything you can say to help me understand/prevent this situation.
