Hello, My 7 year old daughter has allergies to peanuts, fish, eggs. Also to dogs and my house. The issue and my question is about the house. Everynight all year round at home my daughter gets itchy, runny nose.Everyhting that could posible be change in the house was done such as no rugs, air purifiers,no feather pillows bamboo sheets etc...All changes did not work and it was recomended by her allergist to take cetrizine, zyrtec. She is been on zyrctec for many years now and taking it everynight. It does help with the symptoms but unfortunately, she started to have side effects such as stomach aches, fatigue, tired feeling, constipation, headaques, joint pain(knee),loss of apetite, dry mouth.I am at fault for not figuring this before but when my daughter will sleep in another house or hotels, she will not have the symptoms at all !! and therefore no need for zyrtec.I live in Miami, more specific in a community called Royal Oaks. The name is because the area is full of Oak Trees.I am convinced that these trees have been the allergens causing the symptoms of my daughter.I was very happy to find the reason but now this has turn into a nightmare. Please keep in mind that my daughter does well in other parks.its been around dogs and she does well. The issue is only the house.I am a practicing dentist and I do understand we all have our different opinions on how to treat a patients. However,I also know there are Drs that are money driven and choose to forget the basic principles we were thought. My obvious solution was to move my daughter from the area away from those trees and this is an easy solution. With out my knowledge,my wife went back to my daughters allergist and both came to agreement that the best treatment was immunotherapy.I was in shock.I was able to speak to the allergist and explained that I was not in agreement with his propose treatment.I explained that the patient can be moved from the allergen and Immunotherapy is usually only recommended if person seems to be selective to Several allergens.I also made it clear that the reactions are only localized to the area I live. She does fine in other areas that doesn’t have royal oaks and lucky as per my research, there are many areas in Miami to choose from to move.Royal oak trees is only localized to the Miami lakes area.My daughters allergist still pushes immunotherapy. At first I didn’t understand why my wife went back and is agreeing to do immunotherapy when we did agree years back that immunotherapy was not the right choice for our daughter. I come to find out that my wife filed for divorce and wants to keep the house hence cannot move my daughter. Its sad that my soon to be ex wife puts the house first and neglects what I believe it’s the best treatment for my daughter ( to move her out of the allergen and we don’t have to move far, just away from those trees)and unfortunately found a Dr to agree with her. My question is do you agree with me? Wouldn’t be the first step to at least move my daughter away from those trees and see how she reacts? I know the American College of Allergy,Asthma and Immunolgy follow these guidelines mentioned in their website. Please advise and pardon my spelling. Thank you.
