Hello, My Nine Year Old Son Has A Fever And

Hello,
My Nine year old son has a fever and muscle achiness, he has a cough, sore throat, and is generally feeling rotten. A moment ago he was scared because he said he was having trouble breathing. I thought his symptoms sounded like a pretty typical winter style flu, but am confused about this brief single time of trouble with breathing. He is easily susceptible to suggestion but said that he had not been worried about breathing before it happened (we recently listened to a podcast about diphtheria and the dog race to take medicine up to patients in Alaska and I was wondering if that scared him) So I am wondering, what could he have?
