Hello and thank you.
I have been seeing circular, shadowy "blobs" (one "blob" in each eye) just outside my central vision in both eyes for almost a year. They appeared gradually over a period of extreme stress.
These "blobs" don't "float," they are constant in position, but they do change in size depending on my body's position and activity level. When I lay down they grow larger and encroach toward my central vision, and are accompanied by a pressure headache. When I stand up and walk around these "blobs" shrink to my further periphery where they don't bother me, and the headache subsides. I can see the "blobs" better when I'm looking at a white wall. I can see them better when I shake my head from side to side quickly. I can see them, as if they give off light, when I close my eyes.
I also have difficulty seeing at night, grainy vision at night, blurry/double close-up vision, light sensitivity, rolling light flashes in my periphery daily.
I have been to several doctors. My MRI/MRAs are clear (except for an incidental finding of a sub-centimeter benign meningioma that I'm told could not be causing symptoms).
At first I was told I had slightly swollen optic nerves and Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (I am obese), though my lumbar puncture pressure reading was within normal limits. I was put on Diamox for six months which increased my headaches and did not improve my vision symptoms. I was then transferred to a neuroopthamologist and neurologist who said my eye tests were perfect, they both didn't think I had IIH or swollen optic nerves, they thought the Diamox was giving me low pressure problems, and both diagnosed me with optical migraines and switched me to Topamax.
I have been on Topamax for a month now, with no improvement in these symptoms (except for a reduction in headaches).
I'm curious to know what other physicians might suggest, because I can't find other people with ocular migraines online who experience my same symptoms.
Are there additional tests I should be requesting?
Since these "blobs" definitely worsen every time I lay down or sit for a long time or hold tension in my neck (stress), does this point to a circulation issue? What would I do next for confirmation and treatment of that? Thank you for your time.
