Hi Doctor, I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks in May 2016. Prior to the miscarriage, i bled lightly from the time i expected my period before i found out i was pregnant, uptill the day of the miscarriage. Thinking back, i believe the bleeding came on after being physically intimate with my husband. First time was 2 days before my expected period. Started bleeding and i thought my period just came on early. Bleeding stopped after 2 days. After about 5 days i and my husband were intimate once more and the light bleeding come on again and stopped after a day and continued by the next day without letting up. I was told by a doctor that it was a threatened miscarriage after it had been confirmed that i was pregnant. Scans were done and the pregnancy was progressing. A blood clot was found near the sac but was told it would either bleed out or reabsorbed. Last scan was at 9 weeks and 2 days and a normal heartbeat was seen. Everything seemed fine apart from the light bleeding. I was using only panty liners. Now my question is what tests can be carried out to determine what could have caused the miscarriage. I would have thought that my progesterone levels would have been checked but no hormonal test was done. Secondly i have been told that one should abstain from sex during the first trimester as it could cause a miscarriage. Could that have caused the bleeding in the first place and the eventual miscarriage? I am 37, first pregnancy with a history of PCOS and fibroids with the biggest (of 3) measuring 4.8cm. Please tell me what to do to improve my chances of carrying my next pregnancy to full term and delivering a healthy baby. Thanks...
