Hi Doctor,
Rakesh, male, 39. I have recently had a crush injury to my left lower leg, with an autorickshaw's right side wheel compressing my left leg which was adjacent to my scooter, resulting in my calf being crushed from the left side with the bone compressing against the scooter. There was rupture of skin through the thick jeans that I was wearing. No rough autorickshaw part tore my skin, it was as a result of the severe compression injury. There was skin tear and possibly muscle loss also (though not much). I immediately reached home, cleaned the injured leg with normal water, did not apply any antiseptic then and applied Neosporin powder on the foot, but due to the injury occuring on Sunday, I did not go to my doctor to get it bandaged, I left it open. Next day I went to get that bandaged and the wound has healed after 1 week. They gave me cefpodox 350 for 5 days and took a tetanus injection. There is no open wound now. But even from day 1 when I was asked to elevate leg, once I put down my foot after sleep or after some amount of sitting, I could literally feel blood rushing down to my leg as I planted my foot down and it is extremely painful during the 2-3 minutes it takes for blood to flow down, after which I do not feel much pain and I can walk. Unfortunately due to my work, I cannot enjoy much of a full rest. Is there something serious, like vein rupture or any other syndrome which could be worrisome. I dread for any neurological or blood clot related stuff since both can be potentially life threatening. Please advise in detail whom should I be approaching for an opinion and whether any tests are required.
