Hi. I am a 56 year old female and I have had type 1 diabetes for 41 yrs. now. I was also diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2005. Last summer I broke my hip and had to have a total hip replacement. I was healing well and on my way to a full recovery when I went numb in my groin region and could not urinate. Of course I was placed in the hospital again and a Foley Catheter was placed. Long story short, it was left in for 6 weeks. I was told that it could be from pinched nerves, in my lower back damage from the hip fall,or my Parkinson's or diabetes my be the culprit. I now have Urinary Retention problems. I have to really push to urinate, however I leak at the drop of a hat, especially at night when waking up with a full bladder. I have recovered most the feeling in my groin area so I have now begun to do Kegels again, which I don't know for sure of their doing anything for my urinating situation, but I am hoping for that anyway. I wanted to ask why, when I do leak, it smells so strange, but kind of like insulin. My sugars are not always high when this occurs, which would make some sense to me. I am also wondering what are some of the exercises that have proven to help straighten the muscles associated with this weakness. I am wanting to have some quality of life back, can you help me? Thank you so much. Shayne Huffman
