Hi, I believe I have cough syncope. My question is: what specialist treats cough syncope?
Background: I had cancer in 1997. During chemo treatment my lungs were severely damaged (burned) with one of the chemicals to 75%, due to over extended use of said chemical, beyond suggested time period. Recent lung testing showed capacity down to 60%. I have severe coughing resulting in loss of consciousness. Symptoms mach cough syncope, ie, it develops with remarkable rapidity (3 to 5 seconds) after the onset of cough. It starts with tunnel vision that extends into a buzzing feeling and rapidly into total darkness. I can only cough out and can't breath until the loss off consciousness. There is never any tong biting or loss off bowel functions present. With the cessation of cough, consciousness is rapidly recovered without vasomotor or other sequelae. I have constant heavy mucus (phlegm) production that comes up with coughing. Also tend to throw up upon heavy coughing, mostly after getting up in the morning, but sometimes in the evening too. As I side note, I take losartan for hypertension. I was also diagnosed with sleepapnea. I'm overweight (370lbs) and 48 years old.
