Hi! I Have A Sore Knee. Specifically On The Inside

Hi! I have a sore knee. Specifically on the inside of my right knee where the joint that bends and straightens is. It is tender/sore to touch. In November, I did 'drop lunges' with 12.5lb. hand weight in each hand. I think I strained it then. I am a runner, so I continued to run on it. I prefer running on the open space trails(dirt), but when it became dark at 5:00/30 in the morning I stayed on the roads and sidewalks. Dumb, I know. Anyway, I have laid off running and I am walking and doing the Elliptical at the gym. I ski, also, which aggravates it, especially the moguls. I have iced it and taken advil, but not on a regular basis. I am wondering if I should ice/heat. When I rest it, it does feel better. It is sore when I sleep and it is sore and difficult to straighten.
