Hi. I have just had I&D procedure performed by my doctor on my carbuncle located on my butt, which caused a deep round wound (roughly an inch to an inch and a half in diameter). It still keeps on draining minimally everyday. I have taken the oral co-amoxiclav625 that she has prescribed and did the necessary home regimen as well. And it has been a week since the operation, I have noticed that the wound's flesh is not as raw as the first two days post-operation, it looks like its healing pretty well.
However, I am concerned that it looks like there is some pus on the wound that I cannot remove by wiping the wound directly with povidone-iodine on cotton ball/balled up sterile gauze pads (as suggested by my doctor). About 1cm of the skin around the wound is kinda hard too, my doctor said there is still pus there that should drain on its own, that its good now that the skin is no longer blocked due to the surgery. And she recommend that I "press" this pus-filled surrounding skin to facilitate draining.
Do I have to worry about the "hardened" pus on the wound? Or will it go away, eventually?
Is "pressing" the skin okay? Or do I have to apply warm compresses?
